MICHAEL DOUGLAS MATTHEWS  (Age 75)  
Of Silver Spring, MD, died peacefully at Montgomery MedStar Hospital on August 7, 2016. As a young man, he proudly served in the United States Navy. He moved from Ohio to Maryland in 1982 and enjoyed a happy career as a Tour Guide for many years. Mike loved history and sharing his wide knowledge of it with school children on tour in the nation''s capital. He loved all good jokes and music, especially show tunes and standards from the American Song Book. Mike''s easy charm and sense of humor endeared him to scores of friends and professional colleagues. He will long be remembered and sorely missed by family and friends from Oregon and Florida to Ohio and Michigan and in the local DC-Maryland Metropolitan area. He is survived by his sisters, Jane Hodgson (Charles) and Nancy L. Matthews; nieces and nephews, Nancy Householder (Keith), Martha Brunzos, John Hodgson (Mary), David Arnson, Diane Arnson Svarlien (John), Leslie Arnson (Peter) and Josh Arnson (Maureen); as well as his great-nieces and nephews, Debbi (Doug), Melissa, Kathy (Gary), Kate, Katelyn (Noah), Michael, Amelia, Aaron, Corinna, Ruby, Hannah Lee and Daniel; and the great-greats, Christina and Peyton. His final laying to rest will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
