Of Manassas Park, departed this life gracefully on Friday, October 5, 2012 in her home surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in New York City on August 8, 1939 to the late Lawrence and Eleanor (Boehles) Colby. Noreen began employment in her beloved city of Manassas Park on March 15, 1978 and retired on December 31, 2001. She was held in high regard as the Director of the Manassas Park Dept. of Social Services, where her vision and leadership transformed the lives of many families in the city of Manassas Park. She served on the Manassas Park City Council from July 2002 to June 2006 where she continued to initiate positive changes to strengthen and enhance the lives of the citizens of Manassas Park. Noreen also served on the Manassas Park Electoral Board from February 2009 through October 2011.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Lawrence Slater; a brother, Charles Colby; sister, Joan Colby; and her Boston Terrier "children" Leo and Yankee.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Jonathan Colby Slater; a caring sister, Geraldine Anderson; a life long friend, Robert Abraham Kahn; her beloved Boston Terriers, Dyna and Lou; many special friends and relatives, and her devoted partner and very best friend, George Adamson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St. Manassas, VA 20110.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, 4101 Eisenhower Ave. Alexandria, VA 22304 or to SERVE of Manassas 10056 Dean Dr. Manassas, VA 20110.
