Robert Gallagher "Bob"

Born July 20, 1938, Corona, NY. Passed peacefully June 21, 2018, Arlington, VA. Devoted husband of June. Flabbergasted father of Mike, Kevin and Tom. Thankful father-in-law of Cassie and Karen. Proud grandfather of Patrick, Delaney, Kelly and Kerry.

Bob was the epitome of a Cold Warrior. He grew up in the Boston projects and joined the Air Force to get out. As a Russian linguist, he was stationed in Berlin to eavesdrop on Russian pilots. He attended Brown University where he met his wife of 53 years. Upon graduation he joined the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer. After postings in Yugoslavia, South Korea and West Germany, he transferred to the Department of Commerce. Here he was Intelligence Director for five Secretaries, and with his team was awarded NSA's Signals Intelligence Directorate for his service. He also earned two black belts and served his community as a Boy Scout leader, citizenship teacher and food bank volunteer.

Services will be held at St. John the Beloved, 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean, VA, Thursday, June 28, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Bob's memory to the Arlington Food Assistance Center.
