GIVENS ROYCE LEE GIVENS, JR. (Age 63) August 8, 1944 - March 23, 2008 Royce joined his Lord on the evening of Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, surrounded by family and his pastor after a 13-year struggle with cancer. Royce was born in Washington, DC, was a graduate of Falls Church High School, Wake Forest College and the William & Mary School of Law. He served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam and was awarded the Bronze Star. He had been a member of the Virginia Bar since 1973 and had practiced law in Leesburg until early in 2005 when declining health hastened his retirement. He was also a realtor with Coldwell Banker, a part-time instructor for many years in the School of Business at Northern Virginia Community College, an active member of the Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church, and a member of Hamilton-Thompson Lodge #37 AF&AM Purcellville, VA, 32 Degree Mason of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Alexandria Valley, and The Winchester Commandery No. 12 of the Knights Templar. His last three years were spent as a participant in Phase I Studies at Johns Hopkins Cancer Center, helping to test new cancer drugs. He was often among the first three or four humans to receive an experimental drug. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; two step-daughters, Linda J. Boris and Jennifer L. Koch; six step-grandchildren, Katrina, Stephanie, Maria and Robert Boris and Alyssa and Parker Koch, sister, Louise Steinhauer, niece, Melissa Webster, nephew, Mark Steinhauer, and over 100 cousins of various degrees. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008, 11 a.m. at the Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church in Falls Church, In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church, 3435 Sleepy Hollow Rd., Falls Church, Va 22044, "Support Cancer Research" at Johns Hopkins Hospital/Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, 100 N.
