Dr. Thomas J. Blackwood, Jr.
(Age 93)

Tom Blackwood, affectionately known as "Grumpy," passed away peacefully on November 11, 2019 at his home in Potomac, MD. He was an avid horseman, tennis player and hurler of witticisms. He loved the many patients he served over his 65-year career as an orthodontist in Maryland and DC - a practice he shared in his later years with his son, Michael.
He was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve and was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his seven children: Barbara (Michael Jonnes), Susan Zemel (Andy Glick), Thomas III, Kathy (Bill Cowper), David, Michael (Heidi), Deirdre (Jonathan Yates); his 10 grandchildren: Gwyneth Jonnes; Simon Glick, Mark Zemel, Katie Glick; Patrick, Elizabeth, and Cameron Blackwood; Charles and Henry Blackwood and St. Julien Yates; and his two great- grandchildren, Elijah and Ruby Glick.
He was born in New Jersey, graduated from St. Peter's Prep, and was a World War II veteran. He stayed in Washington after graduating from Georgetown University and Georgetown Dental School. He was involved in many regional and national dental organizations and was an enthusiastic member of the Potomac Hunt Club, the New Market-Middletown Hunt Club, and the Middletown Valley Beagles.

Friends and relatives may call on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at JOSEPH GAWLER'S SONS at 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest. The Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD.
