Thomas Lofton " T.L. " Hawkins died on October 5, 2014 in Washington, DC from complications of neurodegenerative disease. He was born in Queens, New York in 1939, the son of Marshall Hawkins, a photographer, and Dorian Leigh Parker, a fashion model. He graduated from Florida State University with a BS in physics and worked for the US Navy in Panama City, FL and later for various contractors in the Washington, DC area. His specialty was underwater acoustics for anti-submarine warfare. He was an avid audiophile and accomplished amateur photographer. His marriages to Lucy Eidson and Norma Reyes ended in divorce.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kristie Miller; his stepchildren, Sandy and Ellen Twaddell; his step-grandchildren, Sarah and Rebekah Twaddell; and his sisters Young Paciello and Miranda Bordat Van Etten. His family and friends will miss his arcane knowledge, impish sense of humor and flair.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WETA/FM.
