Departed this life after a courageous battle with cancer on August 31, 2018. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Bradley B and Hope Ritter Smith and brothers Bradley B Jr., and Raymond R Sr. He worked for GEICO for 40 years and was Director of Communications for 16 years. Afterwards, he resumed an acting career which began at Georgetown University in 1956. He performed on stage, TV and film and was a member of SAG. His greatest joy was a speaking part in the film "Lincoln".
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce McCarten and his children, Christine (Keith) DeWitt, Christopher (Carmen) Smith, Adam (Carrie) Smith, brother Michael (Kathie) Smith and sisters Hope Smith, Sister Anne Mary Smith, IHM, and Mary (Robby) de Andrade, along with six cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends.
Interment at National Funeral Park, 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. Memorial Service follows at 11 a.m. at Little Falls Church, 6025 Little Falls Rd, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorials my be made to: The Falls Church Anglican Building Fund, 6565 Arlington Blvd, Suite 300, Falls Church, VA 22042 in honor of Walter Smith. Obituary may be viewed at
