WILLIAM LEACH Obituary


Dr. WILLIAM MATTHEW LEACH  
Bill Leach, scientist and patron of the arts, died on Monday, February 26, 2018. Bill was a radiation biologist with FDA for many years, served as an adjunct professor at the George Washington University, and supported many musical and Appalachian causes throughout his life. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Marion Drew Leach, in 2007. As well as a large extended family and friends who were like family, Bill is survived by three children and their partners/spouses, Jennifer Leach and Scott Bridgewater, Washington, DC, Marc Leach and Jeannine Hurst, West Bloomfield, MI and Steve and Monica Leach, Keene, NH; and two grandchildren, Chloe Leach and Noah Milad. His siblings, Paul Leach, Boston, KY, Rachel Thomas, Tuscaloosa, AL and George Robert Leach, Lexington, KY, also survive. A musical celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 14, 1 p.m. at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle Street, NW, Washington, DC 20016. The family requests that contributions in Bill's memory go to a musical or Appalachian organization that he loved: Pine Mountain Settlement School , 36 State Hwy 510, Bledsoe, KY 40801; Thomas Circle Singers , 1317 G Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005; Berea College , CPO 2216, Berea, KY 40404; or the Marion Drew Leach Endowment, Cathedral Choral Society , 3101 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20016.
