KABES VLADIMIR M. KABES Of Bethesda, MD passed away peacefully on April 12, 2009 of natural causes. Dr. Kabes was 91 years old. He is survived by his wife, Otilia; two daughters, Marianne and Alexandra; and granddaughter, Samantha; as well as nieces and nephews in California and Colorado. Dr. Kabes was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, immigrated to the United States in 1950 and became an American citizen in 1956. His rich international career was built upon his law degrees from Charles University in Prague and the George Washington University, Washington, DC and his love of justice, human rights and international law. His humanitarian efforts on behalf of democratic principles were rewarded by awards such as the Czech Medal of Merit, First Class which he received in 1999 from President Havel of the Czech Republic. His alma mater, Charles University in Prague, commemorated him as an Outstanding Czech Humanitarian of the World War II era. A private cremation service arranged by JOSEPH GAWLER''S SONS was held on April 13. A Celebration of Life to be held in May will be announced at a later date.
