PATRICIA CHAMBERS (nee Murray)

Died July 15, 2007 at Somerford Place in Frederick, MD, from brain cancer (glioblastoma multiforme). She had lived in the Washington area for more than four decades. Born in the Mother Lode's capital, Placerville, CA, Pat came from a Californio family, descended from Eulalia Perez de Guillen Marine (1766-1878) of San Gabriel Mission. She received a BA in History from the University of California at Berkeley in 1959. Pat married the son of Whittaker Chambers in Washington, DC, in 1961. She moved to Tuckahoe Farm in Middletown, MD, in 1972, where she raised three children. Divorced in 1987, she moved to Frederick, MD. There she worked at The Frederick News Post in Advertising, then managed Sound Source. As part of Sound Source, she published The Frederick County Weather Almanac. Her work won awards for both advertising and the almanac. After retirement, she became a tour guide at the Children's Museum of Rose Hill Manor in Frederick until May 2007.

During more than three decades in Frederick County, Pat gave of herself to the community in her work and on numerous boards including the Frederick Arts Council, the Maryland Regional Ballet, St. John's Catholic Prep ("Prospect Hall"), the St. John's Graveyard Committee, and the Frederick Art Club (1st VP 2005-6, 2nd VP 2006-7). She was an avid member of Frederick's League of Women Voters and Torch Club. Survivors include her sister, Moira Murray DeWilde; children, David Chambers, Joseph Chambers, and Moira Chambers Aveline; grandchildren, Michael Alexander Chambers, Raphael Pascal Rossant Chambers, Sophia Adela Chambers, and Alexander Aveline; and nieces and nephew John R. DeWilde III, Jennifer DeWilde Eubanks, and Christina DeWilde Prescott. Further details including donation information are online at: (www.patmchambers.org). KEENEY AND BASFORD P.A. FUNERAL HOME
