Dear Marjorie, I just heard this morning of your loss. I am so sorry. Of course, my memories of you and Dick go back more than 40 years, but as I looked online at the beautiful photos from your summer, the memories were immediate: of you and Dick, determined to succeed and yet easy in your enjoyment of life and friends, and (already!) family. You were ahead of us in so many ways. Here is love and hoped-for solace at the passing of a great man.

I went to high school with Richard and always admired him and his success. My heart goes out to his family at this very sad, most difficult time. We are never ready to give up one so dear. Cherish the love and memories and keep them close. He will always be with you in your heart. God bless you and your family.

We offer our sincerest condolences to you on this sad occasion. We did not know Richard well, but always encountered him as a friendly caring person.

I knew Dick from high school. He was a prince of a guy then and never changed. A terrible loss for all his friends and family.

I attended the beautiful service for Dick Copaken this afternoon and was very much moved by the heartfelt words of his four exceptional daughters. Dick was a good friend of mine for some 20 years and a good friend of Puerto Rico for longer than that, from his instrumental role in getting the US Navy to stop bombing and leave the island of Culebra to his creative initiatives that helped saved thousands of jobs on the Island to, more recently, his contributions towards getting the US Navy to stop bombing the island of Vieques, Dick was an brilliant strategist, an astute lawyer and a caring human being. I will always cherish his insights, his stories and his witty letters, which I still keep. Our deepest condolences to his family. He will be greatly missed.

We were neighbors for many years, and we wish we could have known him better, but through his paintings and graphics, discovered through Mary Blehar, we found an artist able to balance the passionate and profound aspects of space and color.

Dick was a wonderful example of someone who thrived on the joy of life and the correct balance between work and family. Both at work and at home, his priorities were clear. He battled against giants and fought for the little person with equal assertiveness and talent. He will be missed.
