ROBERT LEE GHORMLEY, JR.  
CDR USN (Ret.)  

On June 3, 2012, Cdr. Robert Lee Ghormley, JR., age 88, died peacefully of cancer surrounded by his loving family at home in Bethesda, MD. He was the son of Vice Admiral Robert L. Ghormley and Lucille L. Ghormley and is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Nancy S. Ghormley; three daughters, Louise G. Lamb (Terrence R.), Anne G. Kramer (Michael W.), Nancy G. Hunkeler (Markus J.); sevengrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Cdr. Ghormley was a 1948 graduate of the US Naval Academy and later earned his MBA at George Washington University. He served in The Korean War and spent his career assigned to many tours of duty on shore and sea, such as Washington, DC, Pearl Harbor, Norfolk, VA, and Naples, Italy. After retiring from the Navy in 1969, Cdr. Ghormley became a stockbroker at A.G. Edwards until retiring in 1988. Cdr. Ghormley's favorite pastimes were family and friends, genealogy, golf, and gardening. He was a member of Kenwood Golf and Country Club's Sr. Golf Assn. and the Washington chapter of his Naval Academy class, serving as treasurer for many years. He was past president of the Springfield MD Civic Assn. and was also a member of Friendship Heights Kiwanis Club. His warm and loving ways brightened all who knew him.
Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the .
