A longtime resident of Northern Virginia passed away on April 9, 2013 at Sleepy Hollow Nursing Home. Dr. Oyloe, born in Brookings South Dakota, was a graduate of South Dakota State University, where he received his undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics in 1954 and where he married Cherie Mahan in 1951. Following his graduation and commissioning the United States Army as an Infantry Officer they were assigned in Panama. After his release from active duty, Dr. Oyloe completed graduate school with his doctorate in Agricultural Economics at the University of Minnesota and began his career with the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). While at the FAS, Dr. Oyloe was posted to London, England, Bonn Germany and Paris, France. He was recognized for his achievements with the Secretary of Agriculture Award for his work in the Tokyo Round of Trade negotiations. On his final assignment with the FAS, he was formally introduced to the Court of Saint James in London in 1984 and retired from the FAS in 1986 when returned to Reston Virginia. In 1987 Dr. Oyloe assumed responsibilities as the Executive Director of the Walnut Marketing Board in Sacramento, California, a position he held until 1995. Returning to Virginia in 2001 with his wife, he pursued golf and enjoyed his grandchildren in his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Cherie of 62 years; his daughter, Carrie Kreitler of Fairfax, VA; two grandsons, and three great- grandchildren. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
