ELIZABETH GERACHIS Obituary
ELIZABETH JEAN GERACHIS "Bettie" (nee CHACONAS)
Passed away at the Sam Hughes Assisted Living Home in Tucson, Arizona on February 4, 2015. Bettie is survived by her son Ray Smith of Tucson; granddaughter Ainsley Smith of Silver Spring, MD; brother Theodore Chaconas of Coral Gables, FL and many cousins and friends.Mrs. Gerachis used to model for her former husband, local artist John Gerachis. Later she began a long career in sales at Woodward & Lothrop Department Store and The Hecht Co. where she was known as "B.J." Bettie retired when she was in her early 70's; then she sailed to London, England on the Q.E. 2 for the vacation of a lifetime.After four bouts of pneumonia, Bettie moved with her son to Arizona where the warm, dry air agreed with her; but Parkinson's disease slowed her down last year. She died one day before her 88th birthday. Prayers will be said at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown, Washington, DC and at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, Washington, DC at a later date.
