As we near the first sad anniversary of Ben King's passing, I am reminded of how good Ben was to my foster cats, who only knew that he was a soft touch for ham, chicken, prosciutto and smoked salmon. They didn't care that he had a brilliant mind and a witty, wicked pen. They only cared that he would indulge them with as many treats as they wanted. Ben led a wonderful life with a woman equal to him in every way, my good friend and neighbor Georgia King. His career and accomplishments speak for themselves, but over the years Mighty Man, Marco Polo, Tweeter, Florabella and I would always think of Ben most fondly when we were sitting around the long dining room table, and Ben was letting each of them live it up on ham and smoked salmon.

Ben was a real gem with a laugh that was contagious. I have many fond memories or our families spending time together. It makes me smile to think of him, and I'll always remember him with a lot of love.

A rare person Ben King was....knowledgeable, witty and, most of all, authentic and unique. He'll be missed a lot.

I was deeply saddened to hear that Ben is no more. He was truly a remarkable person. The younger staff members of the World Bank of all nationalities found him easy to relate to and yet very demanding in terms of intellectual expectations. He was a wonderful person to know and learn from. He contributed uniquely to making the World Bank a congenial and truly international organisation.
