TIMOTHY MITCHELL Obituary
TIMOTHY P. MITCHELL (Age 47)
Died January 14, 2017, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. For 25 years, Tim was a Democratic staffer in the U.S. Senate. An expert on Senate rules, Tim was known for his grace under pressure, good humor and collection of baseball ties. Born in Boston and raised in upstate New York, Tim obtained degrees from Catholic University (law) and SUNY Fredonia. Tim loved to travel, particularly to Paris and Cape Cod, and ski with his son. An avid Red Sox fan, his only regret in life was not playing second base for his beloved team. His devotion for the Sox was only surpassed by that for his family. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 23 years, Alicia; son, Ben; father Rev. Philip Mitchell; sister, Christi Mitchell Twain (Drew); in-laws, Eileen and Gene Nulty; sisters-in-law, Ellen Nulty (Mark Mosley); Michelle Nulty (Harry McShane); Kristine Kawalec (J.C.) and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara. Services will be held January 23 at 11 a.m. at Rock Spring Congregational Church, 5010 Little Falls Road, Arlington, VA 22207. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to SOME (So Others Might Eat) at www.some.org or The Home for Little Wanderers at www.thehome.org

Tim was a wonderful person. He contributed so much to the world. We all looked forward to seeing him on the Senate floor, he was the quiet calm in the middle of the storm. He arranged an unforgettable tour of Fenway for my family, lifelong Red Sox fans. His warmth and kindness will never be forgotten. He was a truly good and caring person.

Alicia, I am so sorry for your loss. I still remember my early days working together with Tim on the Senate Banking Committee along with Tara. And I still recall how in love Tim was with you, Alicia; he would tell everyone he was the luckiest man in the world because he had you. I lost my own father to cancer when I was 8 and my heart is just breaking for you and your son. I hope the love of your family and friends holds and lifts you both through the weeks and months ahead.

On behalf of my brother, Monty Seidler, & myself...our prayers are sent to you with love. We will always remember having fun going with Tim, Alicia, Archie & Tim's buddies to Nationals games when the team first came to DC. I also enjoyed having a "beverage of choice" at happy hour with Tim & Jim Lewis (another lawyer) & discussing current political events, case law & sports...Red Sox & Patriots of course.Today, Tim would be proud of the Pats winning their conference. We all were blessed to have known Tim. He was a great person, friend, husband & father. Tim touched many people. Whenever you think of Tim, he is touching your heart, letting you know he is with you. I had the honor of spending four years during law school with Tim. Whether it was studying, sitting next to him in class or taking the metro home with him after school, Tim made everything easier. I will miss his quick wit, his smart-alecky face when he would drop a zinger and his true sense of self. He was such a good guy who left sue far too soon. Alicia and Ben; I wish you all the best during this very sad time and if you ever need anything from us, you have but to ask.
