THOMAS WILBORN Obituary
THOMAS L. WILBORN June 30, 1946 ~ April 20, 2018
Due to natural causes, Thom went home to be with the Lord. He peacefully passed away, surrounded by loving family at the age of 71. Born the youngest of seven, Thom grew up in rural Missouri. After graduating from Arkansas State, Thom proudly served in the U.S. Navy, to include a tour in Antarctica. After serving his country he pursued a career in Journalism working for the Associated Press, on the Kennedy Assassination Board, and completing his career serving veterans for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).Thom volunteered as Social chair for many years for DSW (Divorced, Single, Widowed). He met many life long friends through this group. Thom loved baseball and when he wasn't following his beloved St. Louise Cardinals you could find him working on his model railroad. Thom will be loved and missed by those he left behind. He is survived by his wife, Linda; eldest sibling, Helen Baretta; daughters, Brooke Haiar (Chad), Beth Wilborn (Tom) and step-children, Susan Wright (Matt), Franklin Nichols and Jim Nichols (Brenda); and three granddaughters, Caroline Wright, Rebekah Nichols and Catherine Haiar.A memorial service for Thom will take place on Wednesday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave., Vienna, VA 22180. Interment Arlington Cemetery will be at a later date.

My condolences to Thom's family and friends. Although I knew Thom for a just brief time at Associated Press Broadcast Services in the eighties, in the ensuing decades I've never forgotten his kind and friendly demeanor. No doubt he will be greatly missed by many whose lives he touched through his indelibly positive approach.
Is it just a coincidence that when I saw the name Thom online today, I immediately thought "Wilborn from the AP, I wonder what he's doing these days?" Then a Google search brought me to his obituary.
Thom, if that prompting was your gentle way of saying hello and goodbye, I'm both delighted to hear from you and saddened that it may be a while before we are possibly blessed to converse again face-to-face. All the best in your new journey, and congratulations on a life well-lived, my friend!
