JOHN FARRIS Obituary

FARRIS John Alexander Farris, Jr. "Jay" Of Springfield, VA recently passed away "peacefully" in his sleep on August 6, 2018, within weeks of being diagnosed with Advanced Pancreatic Cancer. His life began in Alice, Texas in 1951 where his father, John Alexander Farris, directed Alice High School Band and mother Penelope "Penny" taught music. The family moved to Springfield, VA where his father directed Annandale High School and mother inspired music development for all ages. Jay is survived by John Sr. and both of his sisters. Mother Penny passed away three years ago. Younger sister Lynn Farris Molnar, married to Bill Molnar, now lives in North Carolina. Youngest sister Yvette Marie lives with and is Caretaker of Father, John Sr. in Springfield. Lynn's children Melody, David, Robin and Esther loved their "Uncle Jay". Jay schooled in Springfield and shared his parents love of music. Church youth choirs (already a quality bass), first chair oboist at Lee High School, and clarinet in their marching band fed this love. While growing up he was enthusiastic about his family's memory-making travels and adventures across this great country - either Camping, staying in "all types" of Hotels, or bunking with various friends and relatives along the way. Jay lived and worked on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, then relocated to Ashland, VA to partner with Calvary Pentecostal Camp for several years. He spread his wings to bring his love for Jesus to homeless people in Los Angeles, and participated in mission outreaches to Central America and the Philippines. Experiencing the wonderful nation of Israel topped his adventures though! Moving back to Springfield, Jay served at the Capital City Church in Washington, DC while volunteering at non-profits during week. He worked at the Fairfax Co. School Supply Facility, and then earned a medical billing degree. In final years Jay bonded with The Gate Church DC in Oakton, VA and was devoted to helping his elderly parents. A gentle companion to his 93 old Father, Jay chauffeured him to church activities and elsewhere, and partnered in care-taking with sister Yvette. Celebration of Jay's life will be held at The First Christian Church of Falls Church on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1 p.m., with his Pastor from The Gate participating. Jay was known as a humble, patient, kind and loving man with a huge "servants heart". He loved to praise and worship Jesus, and surely heard "Well done good and faithful servant" (Matt.25.21) when entering Eternity.Celebration of Jay's life will be held at The First Christian Church of Falls Church on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1 p.m., with his Pastor from The Gate participating.
