Rosanne Elizabeth Burch Piesen  
On Monday, June 7, 2021, of Silver Spring, MD, after a long illness. Beloved wife of Edmond M. Piesen; mother of Ann Piesen (Phil Margolies), grandmother of Maya. Daughter of the late Agnes K. Mullen and the late Robert L. Burch, and stepdaughter of the late Raymond E. Murphy. Born on May 30, 1940, in Washington, DC, Rosanne grew up in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood with her mother, her aunts, and her stepfather. The extended family spent countless summers in Breezy Point, MD. Rosanne graduated from Trinity College in 1962 and then attended George Washington University for a master's program. For several years she worked for the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. In typical Rosanne-knowing-what-she-wants-style, she met Edmond in early 1969 and became engaged soon afterward. They married on April 18, 1969. After her daughter Ann was born in 1972, Rosanne devoted her time to stay at home and raise her daughter. Rosanne warmly welcomed son-in-law, Phil, to the family in 1999, and especially her granddaughter, Maya, in 2011. Rosanne enjoyed cooking family dinners, taking care of her and Edmond's many Westies and honorary Westies, traveling to two of her and Edmond's respective ancestral countries, Ireland and the Czech Republic, visiting her mother's family in Honesdale, PA, swimming at the Olney pool, and spending time with many life-long friends in the DC area. We imagine Rosanne now spending time with her dear cousin Ruth Ann and her best friend of many years, Inge. The family would like to thank the staff of the Health Center at Bedford Court, Premier Health Services, and the Jewish Social Services Agency Hospice for caring for Rosanne over the last eight months. Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15661 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD 20906, on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 10 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Norbeck Memorial Gardens, 16225 Batchellors Forest Rd, Olney, MD 20832. Those desiring may make contributions in her name to either of two charities: Catholic Charities or Maryland Westie Rescue.
