Ringstad, Leonard E.
Leonard E. Ringstad, age 87, passed away at his home in Ripon, WI on Friday, May 3, 2013, with his family by his side.
Leonard, born May 1, 1926, was raised in the Wittenberg, WI, area where he graduated high school in 1944. He served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II and at Fort Sheridan during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion.
He received his Bachelor's degree from State College of Stevens Point and his Master's degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught and was Elementary Principal in the New Holstein Public Schools. Leonard was Elementary Supervisor and then Director of Related Services for the Ripon Public Schools.
Leonard served his community in both New Holstein and Ripon as a member of Kiwanis. He held offices at both the local and Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District levels. He also served on the Ripon City Council, the Ripon Memorial Hospital Board and on numerous other local committees and boards. Leonard was a member of The First Congregational Church of Ripon (UCC) where he served God in many ways including moderator, deacon and director of Christian Education. He also served the United Church of Christ denomination on a number of committees for the Wisconsin Conference Board. Leonard saw his variety of service to his community as a way to serve God and humankind.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth A. Ringstad; his son, Robert (Meg) Ringstad of Stevens Point, WI; his daughter, Mary (Peter) Gagliano of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Delores Hornig of Menasha, WI and Elaine (Raymond) Peterson of Appleton, WI and his brother-in-law, John (Peg) Allen of Stratford, WI. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Verna (Czech) Ringstad; two sisters, Mary Jane and her husband, George Hanke and Lois and her husband, Robert Freiburger and his brother-in-law, Kurt Hornig.
Visitation for Leonard will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 9:30 - 11:00 am at The First Congregational Church, UCC, 220 Ransom St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral service for Leonard will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 11:00 am at The First Congregational Church, UCC in Ripon. Dr. Brian Smith will officiate. Interment will take place on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield, WI. A memorial is being established in his name.
