David Larson Obituary
Larson, Dr. David Lynn

June 27, 1941 -

June 14, 2012

Dr. David Lynn Larson, 70, Lake Tomahawk, Wis., died on Thursday, June 14, at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Wis. He passed away from spinal cord injuries caused by a tragic fall.

David was born on June 27, 1941, and grew up in Buffalo, N.Y., with his parents, Harold and Edna Larson, and his brother, Elliott.

David graduated with a B.S. from Wheaton College and earned an M.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in psychiatry. He completed his medical internship at the University of North Carolina's Memorial Hospital and his residency at Yale University Hospital. His career took him to Oklahoma, Vermont, Texas, and finally Wisconsin. For many years, he served as the clinical director at the Marathon County Healthcare Center in Wausau, Wisconsin.

David, fondly known as "Paca" or "Pooka" by his grandchildren, was a man of many interests and passions, including cooking, boating, fishing, playing the piano, gardening, and playing with his nine grandchildren. He and his wife, Karen, were famous for their gourmet meals and entertaining flair, which drew many to their lake house "El Reno" in the Northwoods. David was also a lifelong singer, who performed in the Wheaton College Glee Club and many church choirs. He had a keen intellect and could always be counted on for witty repartee and an incisive analysis of current political and religious issues. His sly jokes and silly songs delighted his grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife, Karen; his brother, Elliott (Marty) Larson; and his six children, Kimberly (Ed) O'Connor, Sun Prairie; Kenton Bradshaw, Rhinelander; Holly (Jeff) Eversoll, Stoughton; Holly Larson, Durham, N.C.; Kristen (Greg) Larson Blair, Chapel Hill, N.C.; and Joshua (Kim) Larson, Mill Valley, Calif. David is also survived by nine grandchildren,Reilly, Kieran, and Aidan O'Connor, Jackson and Parker Eversoll, Austin and Katie Blair, and Izzy and Reese Larson.

Services are being held Tuesday, June 19, at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Minocqua at 11:30 a.m. A viewing will precede the service at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dr. Larson's memory to Rhinelander Food Pantry or St. Francis Outreach at St. Matthias. Please mail your contributions to St. Matthias Episcopal Church at PO Box 936, Minocqua, WI 54548.
