Wakeman, Frederick J.
Frederick J. Wakeman, son of Fred O. Wakeman and Blossom (Couvillion) Wakeman, passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent Hospital on December 23, 2012.
Fred was born on March 19, 1928 in St. Louis, MO. Fred married Carol L. Muraski on September 15, 1958 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Green Bay, WI.
Fred was a 1950 graduate of St. Norbert College in Economics. He showed exceptional professional success throughout his long career at Green Bay Packaging. He joined the company in 1953 as a management trainee after distinguished service as a Lieutenant in the Army Infantry during the Korean War. During his 42 year career with Green Bay Packaging he served in many positions, retiring in 1994 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Fred was an active volunteer, serving as president of many organizations including the St. Norbert College Alumni Board, the Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce, the Wausau Country Club, and the Oneida Country Club. Professionally, he had been Director of the National Fiber Box Association, the International Case Association, and International Corrugated Packaging Foundation.
During his career, he wrote articles for a number of professional publications on the converting and corrugated industry. Fred also served as a Director for Associated Bank of Green Bay and the Northeastern Wisconsin Economic Development Association. He was a member of St. Norbert College President's Club and received the National Alumni Board of St. Norbert College Alma Mater Award.
Fred was a long time member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in De Pere, where he attended mass daily. Fred was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed travelling, playing golf, reading and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Carol, of Green Bay. He is also survived by four children: son, John Wakeman, his wife, Barbara, and their children, Brett and Abby, of Cockeysville, MD; daughter, Julie Spear, and her two sons, Andrew and Daniel, of Wausau, WI; daughter, Jennifer Considine, her husband, Richard, and their daughter, Meghan, of Cohasset, MA; and daughter, Jill Toomey, her husband, Daniel, and their son, Jack, of Wellesley, MA.
Visitation for Fred J. Wakeman will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church on the St. Norbert Campus in De Pere, with Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be forwarded to St. Vincent Hospital Cancer Research Institute or the Bay Area Humane Society.
The Wakeman family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent Hospital for the compassionate care Fred was given. We would also like to thank them for the comfort and support the family received during this very difficult time.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I work in the Corporate office of GBP and remember Mr. Wakeman quite well. He was a caring man and a good leader for the company. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Surely great memories of the Wakeman Family times in Wausau. Mr Wakeman was always a kind person. And, one of my first customers in my new sales career,
dating back 40+ years.
