Marian Carpenter Weinkauf, 95, of Wausau, Wisconsin died Friday, January 18, 2013 at Aspirus Hospice House surrounded by family.

Marian was born February 11, 1917 in Doland, South Dakota, daughter of Joseph and Gertrude (Rose) Carpenter.

At the age of 2, she and her family moved to Wisconsin to a farm in the Marathon County town of Easton. Marian graduated from Wausau High School in 1936 as a National Honor Society student.

She married Vernon Weinkauf on October 26, 1940. Together, they ran a filling station on North Sixth Street for many years. Marian waitressed at the nearby Wagon Wheel Supper Club for several years. Marian and Vernon raised four children: Susanne Kettner, Linda Graykowski, Kathleen Heller and Ray Weinkauf. In 1956, they sold the filling station and moved to a farm in the town of Texas.

Marian was very creative- sewing for family and friends whole wardrobes of clothing. She was an entrepreneur, establishing her own business, Floral Accents, and spent many years selling floral and craft arrangements from home parties and craft fairs. She was a founding member of the North Texas Homemakers Club and active in the community. Marian was very caring and compassionate and an anchor in the lives of friends and family alike. Well into her 90s, Marian sewed baby quilts for the Linus Project and made warm woolen mittens for those in need. She was very competitive and a whiz at Canasta, Caliente, Scrabble and Sequence. The goal of her grandchildren was to someday "beat Grandma" at those games.

Marian is survived by her daughters, Susanne, Linda, Kathleen, all of Wausau and her son Ray and his wife Sharon, Merrill, Wisconsin. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren - Vicki (Douglas) Bootz, Seth (Kelly)Graykowski, Luke Graykowski, Rusty (Brenda) Kettner, Velvet Fenhaus, Nicole (Anthony) Holzem, Wausau and Mark (Jamie) Wojcik, Hudson, Wisconsin, Andrew (Mikki) Graykowski , Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ron (Anne) Wojcik, St. Michael, Minnesota Steve Wojcik, Pat Wojcik, both of Mosinee, and Chad (Becky) Weinkauf, Chris (Wendi) Weinkauf, Jason (Beth) Weinkauf all of Merrill, Wisconsin. Marian had 29 much loved great-grandchildren - Heather, Tylor, Max, Dan, Shannon, Angela, Josh, Sy, Shanae, Abby, Kyle, Amanda, Brenda, Paige, Dennis, Cameron, Rick, Jessica, Carli, Samantha, Nicole, Marissa, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Joseph, Sammy Jo, Thomas, Alexander, and Oliver. She was thrilled to have four great-great grandchildren, Shavona, Kendra, Marley and Jacob. Being the oldest living family member, Marian shared family memories with her nieces, nephews and extended family many of whom thought of her as their "second Mother."

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon, four brothers, James, Morris, Clarence and Charles Hubert Carpenter, a sister, Mary Lucille Little, and grandson, Jesse Kettner.

Services and a celebration of Marian's life will be held at Faith Christian Community Church of God at Northview Plaza, 1720 Merrill Ave, Wausau, Wisconsin on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Pastor Chad Weinkauf will officiate. Time of visitation is 1 PM to 3 PM. Services at 3 PM.

Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family.
