Jennie L. Bellis

Jennie L. Bellis, 89, a resident of Waymart most of her life, died early Monday at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart.
She was the widow of Mike Bellis, who died on Sep. 11, 2001.
Born in Mauch-Chunk, now Jim Thorpe, she was the daughter of the late L.
Clark and Emma Ruch Beam.
When she was nine months old, she moved to Waymart and lived with her
grandmother, Elnora Beam, in the Emma Ball house for eleven years.
She graduated Salutatorian of her class from Waymart High School in 1938, and from the Stanton Business School in Honesdale.
She was employed as a certified public accountant in New Jersey before deciding to return to school while in her thirties to become a nurse, and was again recognized for her academic achievements. She was a nurse for thirty years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, and also volunteered at the hospital gift shop and in other area's. She also did community service homecare for over ten years in the Waymart area, and was involved with the Wayne-Pike Chapter of the Red Cross bloodmobile for twenty years, and a Wayne County Cancer Drive volunteer several
years. She was a charter member of the Waymart Post 889 American Legion
Auxiliary for over fifty years, served two terms as District President of the Wayne-Pike Legion Auxiliary, and received an award from the US Air Force for six years service in the Ground Observer Corp., which identified planes flying overhead.
She was also an Avon representative for twenty years, and had become a recent member of the Parker Hill Community Church in Clarks Summit.
She is survived by four sons, James Flynn and fiancée Janet Pasco, Blairstown, New Jersey; John Shemanski and wife Genevieve, Factoryville; Stanley Shemanski and wife Susan, Waymart; and William Shemanski and wife BillieJo, also of Waymart and her caregivers before she entered the nursing home; a daughter, Jacqueline Wormuth, Cambridge, Maryland; A brother, Warren Beckwith, Honesdale; a sister, Thelma Stratton, Florida; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen Shemanski; her first husband, James Flynn, and her second husband, Stanley Shemanski; three brothers, Howard Raub and Walter and Donald Beckwith, and three sisters, Helen Stubitz and Muriel and Ethel Beam.
Private funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Jenkins Funeral Home, 269 Belmont St., Waymart. Interment: Canaan Corners Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr., Honesdale 18431.
