Jayne Helen McGarvey of Bellaire, TX, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 26th, at the Margaret Cullen Marshall Hospice Care Center at the Texas Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was 89 years old. Mrs. McGarvey held careers in fashion design, real estate and property management in New York and Connecticut.

Born in New York, Mrs. McGarvey was one of the first graduates of The Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. She was the curator and actively involved in the Kent Art Association and many other civic endeavors including the Kent Garden Association and the Kent Chamber of Commerce.

At a young age she developed a strong appreciation and love for gardening on trips with her father to the New York Botanical Garden. A devoted wife and mother, she especially enjoyed spending time at the beach, with her grandchildren and enjoying a Manhattan or French 75 with dear friends and her best friend and husband, Joe. A creative spirit, her love of life and family will be greatly missed.

Mrs. McGarvey was pre-deceased by Joseph, her loving husband of 67 years and her son, Kevin (Carol, also deceased). Jayne is survived by her daughters: Kyle Ariza (Mario) of Bellaire, TX and Karen Whitman (James) of Dunn Loring, VA; and her sons Keith (Karen) of Torrington, CT and Kraig (Lynn) of Cave Creek, AZ; grandchildren Lara Giallombardo (Michael), Kevin McGarvey, Patrick McGarvey, Lindsay Jakobovits (Matthew), Dana Whitman, Marissa Ariza and Kolin Ariza; and great grandchildren Adrianna Giallombardo and Dominic Giallombardo.

Her family is very grateful for the care, kindness and loving attention provided by her doctors with the Baylor Clinic Geriatrics team, the staff of St. Luke's Hospital, Holly Hall Assisted Living and Houston Hospice at the Margaret Cullen Marshall Hospice Center.

The family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later date. Friends, who wish, may contribute in her memory to the Holly Hall Retirement Community, Attn: Assisted Living Program, 2000 Holly Hall Street, Houston, TX 77054 or to the Margaret Cullen Marshall Hospice Center, 1905 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX 77030.

Sorry to read of Jayne's passing, grew up with her family in Farmingdale New York. Was friends with Kevin her son who also has passed, Both Jayne & Joe were very kind to me, once stopped by their home in Kent Conn while in college upstate New York and they allowed me to stay to rest. God bless this generation for both of my parents are gone too. Marion & George remained friends with Jayne & Joe even after we left the area.
