Ruth Hamilton (nee Johnson) passed away peacefully in the early morning of September 28, 2018 at the age of 98.
Born November 27, 1919 in Okotoks to Sam and Pearl Johnson, Ruth was the third of 8 children and spent her childhood in Okotoks until the family moved to the Black Diamond area in 1932. In 1938, at the age of 18, Ruth went to work for Mrs. Isabella Hamilton in DeWinton where she met and later married Bill Hamilton, her husband of 62 years. Ruth dedicated her time and never-ending energy to raising their 3 children, Isabella, Billy, and Sam, while helping Bill run a busy farming and ranching operation. Her cooking, canning, and baking skills were legendary and necessary as there were often many hired hands to be fed at mealtime in addition to her own family.
Ruth will be fondly remembered for so many things but especially for her selfless and thoughtful nature, her tireless work ethic, her honesty, a love for music and gardening,
a kitchen that was always open, and her ability to stop a misbehaving child in their tracks with "the look". She was the living definition of a western pioneer woman with true dedication to her family and friends and the western lifestyle. She leaves us all rich in memories and the
family is grateful for the "Hamilton Family History" that Ruth wrote and published for them in her later years Ruth was met in heaven by her husband Bill, her daughter Isabella, brothers Charlie, Gordon, Leonard and Ralph, sister Thelma and dear friends Jean Marshall and June Johnson. She will be missed dearly by her children; Bill Hamilton (Rosanne) and Sam Hamilton (Sharon). Ruth was a devoted "Gram" to Billie-Ruth, Bobbi-June (Max), Tyler (Lorie-Lynn), Marci, Sammy, Mandy (Chris) and Cayleigh and great grandmother to Skyler, Brock, Shayde, Payton, Kelsie, Kelby, Chase, Caitlyn, Amanda, Rhett and Everett. Ruth will be fondly remembered by her brother Winston and sister Pauline along with all her extended family and her many friends.
In respect of Ruth's wishes, a private gathering for the family will be held on October 12, 2018 2:00PM at the Snodgrass Funeral Home in High River.
