Bernice Mills December 25, 1933 - July 13, 2021
Bernice Mills passed away with her children by her side at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Hospital, Moose Jaw on July 13, 2021 at the age of 87 years. Bernice was born near Corning on December 25, 1933 to Peter and Carolina Wolbaum. In 1937 the family moved to Hillhurst school district. In 1951 Bernice married Ernie Mills and they resided in Handsworth where they had 4 children: Ray, Rhonda, Gary, and Deb, while they farmed. They moved to the farm near Handsworth in 1968 and lived there for 25 years before retiring to Weyburn. Bernice was always a very active woman, working on the farm, keeping a large garden, baking, sewing and quilting. She was a lifelong curler, continuing to watch championships on TV after she was no longer able to curl. Bernice was a member of the Handsworth Homemakers (Womens Institute) and the Stoughton Legion Auxiliary for over 25 years. After retiring to Weyburn, she worked at McDonalds to keep busy and socialize with acquaintances from all over who came in for lunch, started baking for the Farmers' Market where she obtained many loyal customers, and took up bowling. Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Carolina Wolbaum; husband, Ernie Mills; son, Ray Mills; brothers, Andrew, Adam, Joe, Peter & Louis Wolbaum; sisters, Kay Daley, Winnie Kennedy, Frances Katona and Margaret Cheater. Bernice will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Rhonda Mitchell (Mills) of Moose Jaw, SK; son, Gary Mills of Oakville, MB; daughter, Debbie Mills of Vancouver, BC; grandchildren: Rebecca Mills, David Mills, Georgette Allan (Mills) and Tanith Perry-Mills; great grandchildren: Myriah Mills, Jadyn Dubois and Aleena Mills; great great granddaughter, Ivy Mills Kelln as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Bernice's Life was held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Pastor Jody Pfeifer officiating. Interment followed at Handsworth Cemetery, Handsworth, Saskatchewan. For those so wishing, donations in memory of Bernice may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society
