Dan Vatamaniuck Dan Vatamaniuck, late of Weyburn, SK passed away February 21, 2021 at the age of 91 years. Dan was predeceased by his parents, Ignat and Alana Vatamaniuck; his wife Jean Vatamaniuck; brothers, Gus and Bill Vatamaniuck; sister Margaret Radu. Dan is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Jeffrey Weinkauf) and family: Ryan [his son Luke], Linnette (Eric Porter), Shealease; son Bob (Shawna) and family, Paige and Payten; son Ron (Lisa) and family, Austin and Grace; brothers, George Vatamaniuck, Steve (Judy) Vatamaniuck; his sister Kaye Dandurand; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dan was born in southwestern Saskatchewan in 1929 in a time he fondly described as, "simple but tough". Being raised with 6 siblings on a large diverse farm meant he had to work as hard as everyone else and take his turn at chores and even getting bigger portions at the dinner table. As he grew up he contributed to the success of the farm near Lefleche until the RCMP called to him. He got on a train and travelled to Ottawa and was quickly recognized at the Academy as a strong common sensed member who was great with horses. It wasn't long until the riding instructors were coming to him for advice. After spending some time in Ottawa, he dismounted from the RCMP and found law enforcement work in Saskatchewan closer to home. He eventually landed with the Weyburn Police Service in 1965 and served along side his brother Bill. About the same time, he met the love of his life in Jean and married her soon after. He spent 25 years with Weyburn Police and during that time he had 3 children, daughter Debbie and twin sons Bob and Ron. He raised them with the same work ethic and rural compass and eventually retired in 1990 as the nest emptied. In retirement, Don enjoyed spending many hours visiting family and friends, fishing and doing some travelling. He was able to spend quality time with Jean until she passed away in 2016. Dan missed her, every minute she was gone. Dan lived his life believing in several life lessons that he passed on to his kids... Say what you mean; a sense of humour can charm anyone, a thoughtful gesture can improve anyone's day and don't buy anything you can't pay for with cash. Dan will be greatly missed by many in Weyburn and beyond. Those include many friends, a large extended family and his children and grandchildren. However, it is reassuring to know he is finally resting and with Jean, undoubtedly annoying her with his endless repertoire of "Dad Jokes". A Funeral Service was held Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK with celebrant Fr. Francis Plaparampil. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK.
