Alva "Jean" Schuette Obituary
Alva "Jean" Schuette, 84, of Quincy, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018, at Sunset Home.

Jean was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Quincy, a daughter of Wilbur and Hortense Stoermer Klues. She married Edmund "Ed" Schuette on Oct. 27, 1951, in Quincy. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2004.

She graduated from Quincy High School in 1951, and attended Gem City Business College. Jean started working at Gardner Denver and Quincy Supply. Later on she worked at Motorola for 16 years, until they closed the factory. Jean was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she and Ed were youth group leaders and members of the Couples Club.

Jean was a very tireless, dedicated fan of sports, especially basketball and football. She and Ed spent many summers taking athletes to games, and they followed the Blue Devils faithfully at home and away. They worked many soup suppers and were willing to help with anything that needed to be done. She was inducted into the Quincy Blue Devils Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2003.

She liked working on her class reunion, but more importantly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Donetta Schuette and Cindy Gibbons, both of Quincy; two grandchildren, Stacey Cleesen and Justin (Katie) Wells, all of Quincy; and three great-grandsons, Brice Waldrop and Alex and Ethan Wells, all of Quincy.

In addition to her husband, Ed, Jean was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Carrie Cleesen.
