Donald George Daugherty Obituary
Donald George Daugherty, 98, formerly of Adams County, died Monday, May 7, 2018, in Longmont, Colo.

Don was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Quincy, to George and Mary (Wood) Daugherty. He grew up on the family farm and attended a one-room school south of Mendon. He graduated from Quincy High School and attended Gem City Business College. In 1941, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and honorably served for four years during World War II in Africa and Europe, working as an airplane mechanic.

On May 22, 1947, he married Ruth "Betty" Aber in Hersman. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last year.

Growing up, Don attended Mendon Congregational Church, where he was very active and served as a deacon, and later Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church. He worked for Gardner Denver as a machinist for over 40 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.

Don enjoyed woodworking, gardening, carpentry, square dancing, golfing, traveling, camping with his family and spending winters in Florida with Betty.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Betty; their three children, Sandra (Charles) Straley of Longmont, Colo., Jim (Karen) Daugherty of Estes Park, Colo., and Donna Janks of Gunnison, Colo., eight grandchildren, Chris Walters, Jennifer Walters, Tim Walters, Eric (Karen) Daugherty, Becky (John) Luna, Beth (Paul) Stern, Sarah (Jesse) Peterson and Rebecca Janks; seven great-grandchildren (and one on the way); and his two sisters, Marjorie Schaeffer and Marilyn Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Merle Daugherty.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. June 7 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, Colo., 80501. Burial will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
