James A. Mast Obituary
James A. Mast, 88, of Sunset Home, formerly of 513 S. 43rd, rural Quincy, and rural Barry, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Sunset Home.

He was born July 14, 1929, in Quincy, a son of Clarence and Helen (Thiemann) Mast. He married Louise R. Derhake on Sept. 11, 1948, at St. John Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 1997.

James was a lifelong farmer in the Quincy and Barry area. He was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he was in the Holy Name Society and helped with the pancake and sausage breakfast. He volunteered at Quincy Notre Dame and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. James was an avid Cubs fan and loved playing cards with his family and friends.

The family would like to thank Curtis Creek, Community Care and Sunset Home for providing our father with the individualized loving care that showed him dignity and respect.

He is survived by his children, Alan (Sharon) Mast of Springfield, Bill (Carol) Mast of Quincy, Ronnie (Joyce) Mast of Quincy, Cathy (Joe) Hollensteiner of Quincy, Mel (Debbie) Mast of Sherman, Tony (Donna) Mast of Springfield, Sue Meyers of Orange Beach, Ala., and Kent (Monica) Mast of Liberty; daughter-in-law, Sue Mast of Quincy; 26 grandchildren, Daren (Kim) Mast, Brandon (Kristen) Mast, Megan (Ty) Suhre, Afton Mast, Elizabeth (Dr. Michael) Ray, Matt Mast, Sarah (Malcom) Booth, Andrew (Maria) Mast, Michelle (Spenser) Morrissey, Michael Mast, Daniel Mast, Becky (Brian) Terwelp, Robert (Brittany) Mast, Krista Mast, Travis (Michelle) Hollensteiner, Dr. Casey Hollensteiner, Nathan (Christa) Hollensteiner, Zach (Rachel) Mast, Phillip Mast, Jessica Mast, Amanda Mast, Kyle Mast, Evan Meyers, Mackenzie Meyers, Austin Mast and Dylan Mast; and 17 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, James was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Mast; a sister, Virginia Dittmer; and a brother, Lloyd Mast.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery.

VISITATION: 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

MEMORIALS: St. Anthony Catholic Church or Quincy Notre Dame.
