Marjorie Lease Gates Obituary
Marjorie Lease Gates, 97, of Quincy, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 11, 2018, at Good Samaritan Home.

Marjorie was born March 28, 1921, in Adams County, a daughter of Roy and Lula Cosgrove Lease. She married Roy Marlin Gates on Nov. 1, 1942, in Plainville. Roy preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2015.

Marjorie graduated from Payson Seymour High School with the class of 1939 and the Quincy Beauty Academy in 1940. She was employed as a cosmetologist for 21 years and then as a secretary at Calcium Carbonate Co. in Quincy. After she retired, she became the activity director at Sunset Home, and she was a fabric weaver for several years.

Marjorie was a very active member at Melrose United Methodist Church for over 50 years, serving on the church board, United Methodist Women's group and various committees. She helped to teach several Bible study classes, managed the food pantry, taped the church services, helped to start Operation Christmas Child and visited the church shut-ins. In her later years, she compiled short Scripture books. She volunteered at nursing homes and at Blessing Hospital.

Surviving are one daughter, Gloria Seright (Gary) of Surprise, Ariz.; a grandson, Aaron Hunsaker (Melissa) and their children, Emily and Harper, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two stepgrandchildren, Matthew Seright (Kathy) of Springfield, and Lisa Brandon and her children, Lane, Anna and Nathaniel, all of Quincy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Dale Lease; and a sister, Mildred Davis.

SERVICES: Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, in Payson New Cemetery in Payson with Philip Zimmerman conducting.

VISITATION: 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

MEMORIALS: Melrose United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Home.
