Alice Z. Garry Obituary
GARRY, Alice Z.

Alice Z. Garry was born August 8, 1925 in Los Angeles, Ca. She was born to Petronillo Zaragoza and Enrigueta Bueras (Zaragoza). Alice was the second born of seven children and was raised in East Los Angeles. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1942, she enjoyed school and always wanted to continue her education. Alice married and had 4 children. Alice was a loving mother and taught her children the value of hard work. While her children were still at home she worked as a Department manager for The Broadway Department store. On top of working she often sewed her boys' shirts and her daughter dresses. She always enjoyed cooking for her family. (For a time she was a caterer out of her home and contracted work with a local company.) She was able to continue on in the early 1970's at the Career Training Center. She acquired a certificate of completion in secretarial administration and began her career at Santa Fe Railroad.
Alice was the matriarch of her family. She often hosted family gatherings and was proud that she was the center of her very loving family. Along with being the family- oriented woman that she was, she also was self-educated. Alice was a connoisseur in the areas of art, American Literature, Japanese culture, jazz music, gardening and gourmet cooking. She and the love of her life, her third husband Jack Garry enjoyed traveling together, discussing world events, antiquing, and living life to the fullest together. They were heavily involved in the Optimist Club and Republican National Party of Whittier, Ca. They always had National Public Radio playing in the kitchen where they would spend most mornings together drinking coffee or tea as Alice prepared meals. They were true partners in life.
Jack passed away in the mid 9o's. Alice although heart broken, continued traveling and kept her positive outlook on life. She was often known to share advice and reminded us during times of difficulty that "this too shall pass". Alice always made time for her family and friends and loved opening her home that she took great pride in. Alice moved to Santa Maria when her health began failing her. Alice fought a long battle with Alzheimer's. She lost her battle on June 20, 2018. She will live on forever in her family's hearts.
Alice is survived by her children, Raymond Molina of Yucca Valley, Rudy Molina (wife- Kristie) of Arroyo Grande, Joanne Skratulia of Whittier, and Clark Atkins of La Mirada. Her siblings Loria Madrid and Louie Zaragoza. Alice is survived by multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her parents, loving husband and siblings Frank Zaragoza, Lupe Vazquez, Virginia Zaragoza, and Pete Zaragoza.
She will be laid to rest next to the love of her life at Rosehills Memorial Park in Whittier CA on Saturday June 30, 2018.
