Dorothy McVey Obituary
McVey, Dorothy Jane

Long time Whittier resident, Dorothy Jane McVey, passed peacefully February 5, 2018, at the age of 98. Jane was born in Nebraska, grew up in South Dakota and moved to Los Angeles with her parents and brother upon graduating from high school. Soon after, her high school sweetheart, Eddie McVey, followed and they married in 1941. The Los Angeles area was their home except for a short time during WWII when the Navy took him to Florida where Jane and their daughter joined him in Jacksonville. After the war they returned to Los Angeles, eventually moving to Whittier and raising four children. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 48 years and lived in the Whittier house they bought in 1951 until her death. Jane worked at Beckman Industries and retired in 1984. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, reading, working puzzles and traveling. Her greatest joy, though, was playing with her grandchildren.

She was soft spoken and patient. After suffering a debilitating stroke almost 5 years ago she was cared for by loving women who always commented on her graciousness and sweet demeanor. The family wants to acknowledge and thank Jo, Annie, Beverly, Fe, Olivia, and Marilyn for their excellent care and love.

Jane is survived by her four children Susan (Jim) Inglis and Lois (Jim) Simmons of Marietta, Georgia; Ray (Ann) McVey of Redondo Beach and Dean (Kelly) McVey of Covina. Survivors also include 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. " Her children rise up and call her blessed". Proverbs 31:28
