Glenus Bateman Obituary
BATEMAN, Glenus R.

Glenus Redman Bateman, 88, of Arlington, Virginia and Whittier, California passed away on March 23, 2017 after a brief illness.
A long-time California resident, she was born at home in Whittier on October 6, 1928 to Edwin and Thelma Redman. In addition to Whittier, the family lived in Montebello and Sonoma. She graduated from Whittier High School and later from Whittier College, with both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education. Glenus was an elementary school teacher for 27 years in the East Whittier School District. She spent her entire teaching career at Laurel Elementary School, and was a fifth-grade instructor throughout most of her career, retiring in 1990.
Glenus was active in her community, and was a member of the East Whittier Women's Club and the Association of American University Women. She was a member of First Friends Church in Whittier.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, John "Bill" Bateman, and their two sons, John and Paul (Marguerite) and three granddaughters, Ellen, Nancy, and Greer, as well as her brothers Ronald and the Reverend Nolan Redman, and sister Marilyn Egusquiza, and six nieces and nephews.
For the past 25 years, Glenus and her husband principally resided in Arlington, Virginia so they could be close to their granddaughters, in whose lives they played a daily and important role.
She will be interred at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier. Funeral services will be private.
