Louise Martin Obituary
MARTIN, Louise

Louise Martin, lover of life, left us on April 28, 2017, at home and surrounded by her children. She died with dignity and grace, the same manor in which she lived her 87 years.
Louise was born in Canada on July 19, 1929 and grew up in the small town of Gleichen in Alberta. She married an American and immigrated to the United States in the early 1950's. Louise, her husband and their two small children moved to Whittier in 1956. She completed her high school education at Cal High, and took several college classes at Rio Hondo. Louise became a US citizen in 1958. She was always proud to be an American, sporting many red, white and blue outfits. She was a resident of Whittier for 47 years.
Upon her divorce, at the age of 40, Louise took her half of a bail bond business and created Louise Martin Bail Bonds, one of the first owned and operated by a woman. Early on she worked alone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until she had built an extremely successful business. Her generous nature drove her to reach out to the Whittier community to give back, sharing her time and resources with local service clubs and charitable organizations, including the Soroptomists and Boys and Girls Club.
Louise was honest, hard working, but also fun loving and adventurous. She knew how to squeeze every drop of enjoyment out of life and share it with others. Her generosity knew no bounds. Louise was an athlete, a world traveler, and a stylish dresser who was famous for her fabulous hats, donning one for every occasion. She was quick to smile, see the positive in any situation and her motto, when faced with adversity was, "make it an adventure."
Her gracious, capable, indomitable spirit and unconditional love inspires us all and she will live on in our hearts forever.
Louise is survived by her two children, son Vance Martin and daughter Randi Swedenburg, as well as 8 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Her memorial celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Ritz Gardens, 11201 First Ave. Whittier, from 12:00-5:00pm. We express our deepest gratitude to Hospice of Humboldt for their compassion and support.
