Neal Flaherty Obituary

Neal Owen Flaherty, of Braintree, passed away at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington, surrounded by his family, Sunday afternoon, February 17, 2019 following a courageous 11 month battle with pancreatic cancer, he was 59. Born in Boston, he was a son of the late Joseph P. Flaherty and Rita P. (Crane). The family later relocated to Quincy, where Neal attended local schools, and was a 1978 graduate of Quincy High School. He later attended Northeastern University, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country until retirement several years ago. Neal was an avid reader, enjoyed watching movies, playing cards and going out for lunch with his friends, and was a fan of Bruce Springsteen. Neal was the beloved husband of Tricia (McCarthy) Flaherty; devoted father of Megan Flaherty; loving brother of Brian M. Flaherty of Fla., his twin sister Patricia Patten and her husband Bruce of Quincy, James C. Flaherty of Quincy, and Kathleen M. Chrisom of Hanover. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and countless close friends. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, Feb. 22, from 4 - 8 p.m.in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy. Family and friends gathered in the funeral home beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, prior to the funeral Mass in St. Anns Church, Quincy at 10 a.m. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Mr. Flaherty,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USAF-especially during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen and Women stood ready to defend our Country. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
