Barbara A. DeVorken, of Brookline, MA, passed away on Christmas Day, 2020 in her apartment on Green Street. Barb was a friend to all animals and donated over $1000 annually to the Animal Rescue League of Boston. She is survived by her beloved mini poodle, Amanda Rose. There is no memorial planned, but donations may be made to a local animal rescue league. As a child, Barb loved to take the train into New York City with her father, the late Frank Joseph DeVorken of Middlebury, CT and Boca Raton, FL. She attended Salve Regina University in Newport, RI and spent her adult life in Boston and Brookline. Barb had a beautiful garden on her deck in the warmer months, filling it with flowers and plants. She spent many hours there, chatting with neighbors and doting on their dogs. She remembered anniversaries and birthdays, and liked to lavish her neighbors' dogs with treats, which she would leave in pretty gift bags at the bottom of the stairwell. Barb kept the community of Green Street apartments in line, and could often be heard yelling at residents to dispose of their trash in the correct manner. While it was not fun to be on the receiving end of this, many residents appreciated her willingness to keep the community to a high standard. Most importantly, Barb was deep down a warm and generous person. Her friends will miss her dearly.

I've know Barbara for over 50 years. She had a heart of gold and was the best friend I've ever had. She always had time to listen to me and understood completely what ever was troubling me. We spent time together over the years and she was truly the sister I never had. I will miss her! My love and loyalty to you always Barbara.

Unfortunately, I came to discover that Barbi was a distant cousin only a few years ago. We spoke occasionally on the phone. She was always an interesting conversationalist, and immediately endeared herself to me. We shared stories of our family connection and I had hoped to visit her one day. After trying for many months to reach her, I only found out today that she had passed. Her loss has saddened me greatly. My condolences to her family and friends.
