Marilyn Schofield Obituary

Marilyn Schofield Marilyn Schofield Marilyn C. Schofield, 74, beloved mother, Grammie, renowned artist, wife, and really great friend died Thursday, June 23, at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late James Jay Schofield, to whom she was married to for over 20 years. Mr. Schofield died in 1991. Born in 1936, into the 14th generation family of Marion & Alan Chace of East Orleans, Marilyn attended Orleans High School, graduating in 1954. An accomplished award winning artist, who captured many familiar seascapes of the Cape Cod area, Marilyn served as a dedicated member and partner of Nauset Painters, Gallery 31, Peacocks Pride Art Gallery, the Eastham Painter's Guild and the Saltworks Gallery. She shared her love of painting and her eye for a photographic scene by teaching painting classes in the off season. Marilyn was always interested in the lower Cape's history and did extensive research into family and local genealogy. She co-authored Eastham, for the Eastham Historical Society. She also enjoyed knitting, rug hooking and braiding, and gardening. She was a long time member of the Highlanders drama group, where she met her true love, Jay. Friends and family noticed her paintings had a certain glow and vibrancy to them when they were painted in the Jay era. She was at her happiest sharing her life with him. Besides her art and other creative pursuits, Marilyn's passion involved her huge family, and caring for the children and grandchildren including those of her brother's, sister's, and cousins'. Lately, much of her attention was wholeheartedly dedicated to raising her grandson, Todd Bonozoni. She leaves five children, including her daughter, Pamela Peters, and 4 sons, Bion & Bruce Peters, of Eastham, Jeffrey Peters of Harwich, & Jay Schofield, of Vineyard Haven as well as her brother Alan Chace and sister Patricia Bolduc, of East Orleans; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held at the Brewster Baptist Church, 1848 Main St, Brewster, MA on July 21 at 1:00 PM. Burial at Orleans Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Todd Bonozoni Fund c/o Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank, PO Box 10 Orleans, MA 02653. Thanks, Marilyn, for pushing me back into painting, for being there and understanding, for being someone very special to so many people.

I was blessed to have recently met Marilyn during a weekly painting class she was teaching last year. Although our time together was brief, she "gifted" me, by inspiring me to carefully "look" carefully at the beauty around us. Every time I use Naples yellow, I will think of her. My sincerest condolences to her family.
