I had the pleasure of chatting with Jerry today at the bank. His love for Kathryn was very clear and he expressed it so eloquently. Kathryn's art is lovely, reminiscent of ocean near my childhood haunts. It is wonderful that you keep her love alive in your heart and also by letting others know of her work. Thank you for sharing those memories.

In the early 80´s my brother and father were rowing out in a dingy to our boat. This is them in the painting. My mom noticed her painting this picture. She asked if she could get a copy once she finished the painting. They were so happy to get a copy. My father and brother both passed away in 2021. The Plymouth Harbor picture now hangs in our living room. It gives me great joy gazing upon it and thinking of them. Together , not only in this painting but in heaven. Thank you.

I did not know Kathryn, but I have met and have had some very interesting conversations with Jerry a number of times at the Vine Hill Cemetery in Plymouth where we both visit our beloved.
You can readily tell immediately that Jerry seems like such a warm and caring person. He speaks so glowingly of his love and devotion to Kathryn's life and memory, traits that l, too share for my Soulmate, that it seems only fitting that I write this brief attestation.
Jerry, I look forward to again sharing our gift of gab soon!
Kind regards,

They loved them. She hand painted them the first year .She also designed the cookie cutters. We both made the cutters. If you went there in the 1980s or 90s It was fun we did so Mimi

I was just married in Plymouth on Oct 14, and I would like to thank Jerry for sharing Kathryn's artwork with us. He was kind enough to stop my godmother when heading into the church to give us the Quincy Market print, as the horse-drawn carriage we were in was similar to the painting. I am from Philadelphia, and Quincy Market is the first place I came to visit my husband the very first time I came to visit him in Boston. We will cherish it forever! Thank you so much for your kindness and for sharing Kathryn's beautiful work with us.

Dear Mom, you are missed more than you could ever know. Martha and I want you to know how you have changed our lives. We finally found a home we love, and we couldn't have done it without you. We know your spirit was with us during our search because a framed print of your painting of Plymouth Harbor was hanging on the wall of one of the homes we looked at. It felt like we received your blessings from Heaven. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you! We love you and we know you'll be watching over us as we begin this exciting new chapter of our lives. With love always, Guy and Martha XOXO

I Google my Foster mom from time-to-time and even invited Kathy and Jerry to my wedding 10 years back. I am crushed to learn of her passing. Kathy was always kind, sweet and gentle and knew just what to say to me at the right time. She treated me just as she treated Jamie and Shannon. I am so sorry for your loss, she was and always will be in my heart.

May peace be with you Malguy

Kat is greatly missed by the folks that got to see her creative efforts in storytelling and computer animation. We always looked forward to her updates and tales of how she involved her family in providing voices and inspiration for characters in the adventures she told via 'Just a Wooden Sword'.

I'm very sad to hear that "Kat" has passed on. "Kat" is how she signed her posts on the Animation:Master forum where we got to know her and see her work on an animated movie she was making, "Just a Wooden Sword", based on her own book and with voice tracks recorded by her children.

You can see the many test clips she posted on the forum at:

My condolences to her husband, family and friends who I am sure will miss her greatly.

I had the sincere pleasure of meeting Jerry last week during my visit back home to Massachusetts. I was so astounded to find out he was married to my very favorite artist and I was so so sad to hear of her passing way too soon. I have her print "America's Hometown" hanging in my hallway in Michigan (it used to hang in my home in Plymouth) and it has always reminded me of our precious years we spent there. I walk by it everyday now and smile. I still can't believe I met her husband, that led me to her website and and this page and I got to read more about her and her amazing talent and see how loved and respected she will always be. She will continue thru her beautiful works of art to touch peoples lives and make people smile!

Kathryn May (Howard) Whitaker, Portrait Artist

Kathryn Whitaker's portraits are a life-creating experience. Drawing from everyday situations like a child would draw from a wish book, she has created works of art that become a real part of the lives of those who experience them.

Kathryn chooses as the focal points of her works as the ordinary people, those who normally pass through life unnoticed by the masses. Using this Norman Rockwell technique, she has immortalized those who have touched her life and in doing she has touched the lives of many others.

Painting has been a central focus of Kathryn's life for 15 years. Her study of people through their actions, expressions, emotions and ideas, have been a life-long love of hers and has helped her build up a catalog of material from which to draw on her canvas creations.

Kathryn's art education includes formal art courses as well as studying with many artists in the area. Portraitist Craig Cartmell of Plymouth has shared his knowledge with her as has marine painter Marshall Joyce of Kingston and Patty Blanc of Norwell.

Drawing from what she has learned from others, along with what she has experienced through her work, Kathryn has grown into the role of teacher. She has opened an art gallery and supply shop in Carver and from there she teaches art to adults and children.

Kathryn's portraits were first offered through Mr. Z's Gallery in Cambridge and the Golden Gull Studio in Plymouth. Today her portraits, many of them commissioned, are seen throughout New England. She has also demonstrated a tremendous talent for painting landscapes, seascapes and animals.

This blossoming artist has begun to enter her portraits in art competitions, exhibitions, and shows, including a two-person show in Plymouth's Golden Gull Studio, a one-person show at Kingston Five Cents Savings Bank, and a one-person show at Middleboro Trust Company. Public enthusiasm led to several of her paintings becoming permanent hangings in that town. Others are displayed at the Marion Art Gallery and Vendo Nubes Gallery in Duxbury.

Kathryn Whitaker, portrait artist, continues to amaze with every new life she sets down on canvas or slate. With the world as her menagerie, the gallery of creations shall continue to grow and fascinate those fortunate enough to be drawn to them.
