Mary Patricia "Pat" Gandt

Mary Patricia "Pat" Gandt, 67. Survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Dick; her six children, Steven and wife, Susan, of Duxbury, son Lawrence and wife, Rachel, of San Ramon, Calif., Jeanine Cunniff and husband, Sean, of Topsfield, son David and wife, Donna, of Hampton Falls, N.H., Meredith Massaro and husband, Michael, of Topsfield, and Jeffrey P. Gandt of Topsfield; 15 beloved grandchildren; her brother James O'Brien of Riverdale, Calif.; many nieces and nephews, and legions of caring friends (you know who you are). She was predeceased by her dear friend and sister, GeneAnn Fitch, of Chicago.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., Pat was a graduate of Duquesne University, a registered nurse, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Pat was one of the first board certified lactation consultants, licensed in 1985. Pat recently retired from her role as a nurse and lactation consultant at Beverly Hospital. Pat was a leader of over 25 years for La Leche League, an organization dedicated to assisting nursing mothers and their children. Pat dedicated her life to this mission, with unqualified success. Despite her Pittsburgh roots, Pat was an avid Red Sox fan and was delighted to see them take two World Series.
Pat was a 32 year resident of Topsfield and participated in many volunteer activities in town. Pat was a talented quilter and contributed to the 350th anniversary Topsfield quilt hanging in the Topsfield Library. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Rose of Lima and active member of the LaSalette Shrine in Ipswich. Pat always shared her love with others, especially mothers nurturing their children.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, 12 Park Street, Topsfield, on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to La Leche League International at P.O. Box 4079, Schaumburg, IL 60168 or Lazarus House, P.O. Box 408, Lawrence, MA 01842. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.
