Mary L. Fadiman

1929 - 2018

Mary Lou Fadiman, of Groton, formerly of Concord, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Mabel Louise (Scott) and Dr. Arthur Robert Turner of Norwalk, CT. Mary Lou graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont. She received her Bachelors and Masters in Fine Arts from New York University with Honors in French and English Literature. Mary Lou and Jonathan lived in Massachusetts, spending most of their lives in Concord, and most recently in Groton. Mary Lou was an active member of Trinity Church in Concord, a member of the Episcopal diocese, and a life member of the Concord Public Library. For many years, Mary Lou and family summered in Kennebunk, Maine where she was a charter member of KBIA, the Brick Store Museum and The Kennebunk Free Library. Mary Lou held professional positions as a senior technical writer at Heinle and Heinle, Computervision, and Alliant Inc. all of Massachusetts. She was a student of French and English Literature, spoke fluent French and Spanish, and worked as an Editor for both French and Spanish books. She traveled throughout Europe and lived in Paris for a time. She was an accomplished artist, working in print - making and oils. For many years, Mary Lou was the own er of Rarities Inc., a fine arts gallery in Concord, where she represented artists such as Frank Handlen, Laurence Sisson and Edna Hibel. Mary Lou was an accomplished author, publishing books about Concord, Massachusetts and a biography of Henri Fabre, the inventor of the seaplane. She was currently working to complete a romance novel, The Achievers. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jonathan Fadiman, four children, Clarissa Eaton, Matthew Fadiman, Christopher Hardman, and Plessy Dray, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Services and burial at the historic Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts are private.
