Nickles Chames, 82, of Halifax, died suddenly Aug. 26. Beloved husband of the late Barbara (Casey) Chames, he was the brother of Charles Chames of Abington and the late James Chames and Charlotte Chames. Raised in Rockland, he was the son of the late John and Geneva (Martin) Chames. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Nick and Barbara left New England in the early 1950s, with Nick being recruited by the CIA as a Communications Specialist, and while his domestic place of abode was in Vienna, Va., he, Barbara, and whatever dog lived with them, served a majority of their time in foreign countries, such as Mexico, Formosa, Thailand, Italy, and Australia. And yes, the dogs would always be of German Shepherd origin, and always considered an integral part of the family. A funeral Mass was held Friday, Aug. 30, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Monponsett St., Rte. 58, Halifax, at 9 a.m. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rockland.
