Keith Leslie Jordan, age 100, formerly of Swampscott, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, coach and principal, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 7, 2012. He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline Estelle (Doten) Jordan. He and his wife were Pioneer Residents of Brooksby Village in Peabody. Born in Sebago Lake Village, ME, he was the son of the late Leslie and Grace (Ingalls) Jordan. Keith was a graduate of Portland High School, where he played five sports and earned 14 varsity letters. He also attended Hebron Academy and MCI. Keith graduated from Gorham State Teachers College, now the University of Southern Maine, where he was the star pitcher and hitter. He also played semi-professional baseball for eight years, at one point playing on the same field with Babe Ruth. Recently he was honored by the Boston Red Sox at Fan Appreciation Day at Fenway Park. Keith was also a member of the Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Service Reserve. Greatly respected and admired as a coach and administrator, Keiths career took him from Rangeley, Portland and South Portland, ME to Swampscott, MA, where he retired after 43 years as a school administrator. He was Principal at the Hadley Elementary/Junior High School and the Shaw Junior High School for 34 years. He was also the Swampscott High School Varsity Baseball Coach for 5 years, winning two State Championships, and was named Coach of the Year. Keith received four Hall of Fame inductions: Maine State Baseball Hall of Fame, Swampscott High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Portland Maine High School Hall of Fame, and the University of Southern Maine Husky Hall of Fame, where he was the first person inducted. Keith was also very active in the Swampscott community. He was a member of the Swampscott Rotary for 54 years and of the local Masonic Order for 66 years; being the oldest living member of both organizations. For over sixty years he was a member of the First Church at Swampscott Congregational where he and his wife were founding members of the 50-50 Club and members of the Double or Nothing Couples Club. He also served as Swampscotts Park and Playground Director, Library Trustee, Director of the Historical Society, and co-chair of the Centennial Celebration Committee in 1952. Keith enjoyed family holidays, playing golf, gardening, watching sports, travel, and summers spent at the cabin in Naples, ME. He is survived by his three children, Bruce Jordan and his wife Sandra of Danvers, Ann Bruhn of Arlington, and Judy Aikman and her husband Paul of Hilton Head, SC, as well as his sister June (Jordan) Jensen of FL. Mr. Jordan was my Principal in Middle School, and we shared the same church congregation. Later, it was my honor to call Keith my Brother in Freemasonry. Throughout his life, his character was a joy and example for all of us. I take comfort in knowing he is with his beloved Maddy, once again. Rest in Peace, My Brother.

Keith was the principal when I was at Shaw Jr. High. A while back I was doing a photo shoot for the Swampscott Athletic Hall of Fame and met Keiths baseball team. Keith was unable to attend so the next day I stopped by to give him the photographs. We talked for over an hour about his team .. he had a good story about each player (all pre 1960's). As I left he gave he a great strong hand shake. My condolances to to his family. Bernie Kravitz.

Keith Jordan retired after I finished seventh grade at Shaw Jr. High School in Swampscott. I remember him as a fine principal who cared about the students, rarely had to raise his voice, and who carried himself with dignity and grace. His long life and large family as described in the beautiful obituary are testament to a life well lived, and well remembered. May his name be a blessing.

One of the wonderful people in my life. Our families had such great times together with supper club, bridge club and church. I can hear our dads laughing at all the pranks and golf stories they would tell, we had great parents and they are all together swapping stories. My deepest sympathy to your families...Janet Burk Glasier

Mr. Jordan was just the best principal and man you could ever encounter. I was always amazed that even when I ran into him a few years ago at Eastern Bank, he still recognized me. He was kind, fair and in charge. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives.

Dear Bruce and Family,
The wonderful picture you posted brings back so many memories from my Hadley School years and on. Your Dad is a Swampscott icon. The town was ever so fortunate to have his guidance and leadership. He has left his footprint, that's for sure. My deepest sympathy to you, and the whole family.
