Douglas Tierney Obituary

Douglas J. Tierney MARLBOROUGH Douglas J. Tierney, 65, president of Telephone Systems Service Inc. of Hudson, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 4, 2009 at the UMass Memorial Marlborough Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 43 years of Carol A. (Calden) Tierney. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late John and Josephine (Leyko) Tierney. Mr. Tierney grew up in Revere, attended the town schools and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lynn. The Tierneys settled in Marlborough in July 1972, and established their telecommunications business which continues to be family owned and operated. Mr. Tierney was remembered as a hard worker who worked long hours at his business. He had passion for Corvettes, and also enjoyed growing tomato plants. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Douglas J. Tierney Jr. and wife, Catherine, of Stow, and Erica A. Landry and husband, Joseph, of Hudson; a sister, Elaine McCarthy of Boca Raton, Fla.; and six beloved grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass. Ave. (Rte. 111), Acton, on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 1-3:30 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Mr. Tierney's name to the Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center, 2 Main St., Hopkinton, MA 01748.

Dear Carol, Doug JR. Erica, I want to express my sympathies to all of you. I remember Uncle Doug looking out for us when we were kids in Winthrop. My daughter Mary and I were glad to have seen him at his business a few years back. I remember still Doug and my Dad building the addition at the house in Winthrop. May he rest in peace.
