Paul Niles Flanders, 48, beloved husband of Jan Garver-Flanders, died unexpectedly Friday, December 29, 2017 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Born in Denver, CO, he was the son of Diane (Hubbard) and Niles Flanders of Beverly. He was raised in Beverly, graduating from Beverly High School in 1987. He went on to earn his Bachelors Degree in English from Tufts University in 1991. Paul was employed since 1992 by Community Newspaper Group and GateHouse Media, having worked in the Danvers, Beverly, and Framingham offices. His many positions with the company included proofreader, ad builder, paginator, and pre-press technician. Regardless of his official duties, Paul never let a typo or headline error get by him, and everyone who worked with him appreciated his unflagging attention to detail. A resident of central MA since being transferred to Framingham in 2010, Paul was a loyal and dedicated Red Sox fan (and an inveterate fan of baseball in general, idolizing Nolan Ryan above all other players), and one of the worlds greatest music lovers. He was a talented pianist and had a wonderfully eclectic taste in music (Jan was never more impressed than when they attended David Cassidy and Barry Manilow concerts and he knew every word, or could just sit down at his keyboard and play Moonlight Sonata or Layla). His quiet manner and dry wit (and love of a really bad pun) were just a few of the things that made Paul unforgettable to everyone he met. In the past year, his activism and righteous anger knew no bounds. To quote a dear friend to both Jan and Paul, Paul was a staunch resister of the current administration and a defender of women's rights, human rights, and all manner of equality. Above all else, he was a loving husband, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend who will be missed by all whose lives he touched. In addition to Jan, with whom he shared thirteen wonderful years, and his parents, he is survived by his sister, Hilary Flanders of Beverly; his in-laws, Shirley and Jack Garver of West Chatham; an aunt, Joan Foote and her husband, Jerry, of Mystic, CT; two uncles, David Flanders of Lakewood, CO and Damon Flanders of Federal Heights, CO; a cousin, Bob Flanders of Littleton, CO; and his and Jans beloved cat, Lester. Pauls funeral service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 12 noon to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Planned Parenthood, 1055 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215; ACLU of MA, 211 Congress St., Boston, MA 02110; Strays in Need, 29 Ash St., Danvers, MA 01923; or Beverly Dollars for Scholars (www. beverly. dollarsforscholars.org). It's been 5 years and an eternity since Paul left. He has done good even in death through organ donation and his baseball memorial. Not a day goes by his loving wife doesn't remember him and because of that he is still a positive force in this world. RIP

I never met Paul but loved his things on FB. I know I'd have liked him if I met him. I know he was a great guy cause he has a super wife. May his memory always be a
blessing, and may Jan always feel his presence with her. RIP Paul.
Everytime I do something to resist I'll think about him.
