Dorothy Warnock Bottomley passed away on September 17, 2020 with her children by her side. She is at peace after multiple health issues over the past three years. She was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She graduated from Northside High School in 1958 and attended Lake Erie College class of 1962. She went on to study at Emory University Hospital becoming a certified medical laboratory scientist. Dorothy moved to Boston after her time at Emory and worked as a biochemist at Harvard Medical School where she conducted medical research. She met her husband Cornelius (Neil) A Bottomley, Sr. while living in Boston. They met at a church event and for their first date Neil asked her out for ice cream. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage until his passing in January 2020. Dorothy's favorite job in life was raising her children. She was a devoted mother who supported and was present for all of her children's life events. She always put her family first. She was overjoyed to become a grandmother. She was proud of each grandchild for all of their accomplishments, talents, and gifts. She never missed a soccer game or special event. Dorothy was an active member at the Church of the Pilgrimage in Plymouth, for over 40 years. She volunteered and was part of many committees including Deacons, Flowers, and Christian Education. She loved decorating and interior design. She had impeccable taste and a knack for finding just the perfect items to make an event or space look superb. She used these talents in her personal life as well as sharing her gifts with the church and other local non-profit organizations. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She made lifelong friendships with the women in her local chapter. Dorothy had a love for traveling. She traveled around the world with her husband, Neil. They traveled through North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. She also enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren. She believed it was more fun to have everyone together. She spent her summers on Cape Cod with her husband, children, grandchildren, dog (Daisy), and grand dog. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Clanton and Dorothy Warnock, beloved husband Cornelius A. Bottomley Sr. and brother William Warnock. She leaves behind sister Murray Rice of Cumming, GA; son C. Allen Bottomley Jr. and his wife Jane Bottomley of Hanover; daughter Allison Hughan and husband Peter Hughan of Norwell. She was a very proud grandmother of C.A. Haraden Bottomley III, McKenzie Bottomley, John Hughan and Emmeline Hughan. A private family celebration of life service will be held on September 23, 2020 on the grounds of the United Church of Christ in Norwell.
