Sylvia Neva Gracon, of Quincy, 74 years of age, passed away at her home at Brookdale at Quincy Bay on Friday, April 8, 2016. She was born in Boston and was raised in Weymouth. She was a graduate of Weymouth High School class of 1959. She subsequently graduated from Northeastern University in 1964 and received a degree in social work from the University of Connecticut in 1968. She had been employed as a social worker for the state of Connecticut Family Service Division. More recently she had been a cashier for Shaws Supermarket in East Weymouth. Sylvia was active in Girl Scouting as a member of the Mayflower Council. She received the curved bar award. She had been a camp counselor for the Quincy Council from 1953 to 1961. Sylvia had a particular interest in music, the out of doors, camping and hiking. She is survived by her cousins Joanne Hazlett of Weymouth, Jeanne M. Rideout of Whitman, John Hazlett and his wife MiHae and their daughter Christine of Whitman, Judith Sidlauskas of Hanson, Jane Connors of East Bridgewater, Nancy Curry and her five children of Brattleboro, Vt. Visiting hours at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home 870 Broad St., East Weymouth (opposite the U.S. Post Office in Jackson Square) on Friday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Revered Jennifer Barrett Siegal of the Old South Union Congregational Church, South Weymouth will officiate. Memorial donations may be sent to Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, 1010 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02119 or to Dove for Battered Women P.O. Box 690267, Quincy, MA 02269.
