Robert Morris Obituary

Robert Paul Morris, 55, of North Smithfield RI. formerly of Winchester, MA died on October 4, 2015, after a valiant seven year battle with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Born to Ann (Sullivan) Morris of Apopka, FL, and the late Robert Morris. Bob was a man of great courage and amazing faith. A graduate of Boston College High School where he was a member of the Homeric Academy, he followed his love of Greek to Dartmouth College where he graduated with honors, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa in the Classics. He earned a JD with honors from University of Chicago Law School. Bob was a partner at Morgan Brown and Joy, LLC in Boston, MA where he practiced employment law. His business life was secondary to his love of his family-his wife of twenty-two years The Rev. Eileen Morris, his stepson Nathan T. Peterson of Everett, MA, his mother Ann and sisters Virginia Morris Ardin of Apopka, FL, and Patricia Morris of Cambridge, MA. He is also survived by a nephew Brian Goff, and two brothers-in-law Philip Ardin, and Dennis Weed. He was blessed with many wonderful friends. Bob was a philanthropist, exceptionally generous to the needs of others, both nationally and internationally. Bob loved the opera, was a patron of the NYC Metropolitan Opera and traveled worldwide to hear his favorite operas and performers. Bob was a lifelong Red Sox fan and attended the Boston Symphony for twenty-five years. Bob was instrumental in the founding of the Winchester Area Voice of the Faithful | a Catholic groundswell group founded in response to the discovery of clergy abuse which he ran faithfully for five years. While a strong, lifelong Cath olic, Bob was also actively involved at Slatersville Congregational Church UCC. Bob was influential in the forming of the North Smithfield Food Pantry. Bob was an avid traveler, a voracious reader of all things historical, and had a music collection that rivals few others. Bob was a staunch Democrat, who started his involvement in presidential campaigns at age 12. He was very active in the Obama 2008 campaign. In his quiet way, Bob touched many hearts, and in everything he chose to do he made a difference. The last years of his life were a testament to his faith and his will to live life to its fullest. He will be missed by all those who loved him and had the privilege to know him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11 AM in St. Augustine's Church, 17 Lincoln Street, Millville, MA. Burial will follow in Slatersville Cemetery, Greene Street, North Smithfield. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 - 7 in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Slatersville Congregational Church, UCC, PO Box 808, Slatersville RI 02876, Robert P. Morris - Make a Difference Fund. www.holtfuneralhome.com.

Rest in peace, Bob. You were an inspiration to the rest of us who complain about our daily "hardships" which are nothing more than minor irritations. I am glad that we were classmates at Dartmouth and I got to know you a bit. You can now join my best friend, and your former roommate in Hitchcock, Tony (Pasol) Campbell, who predeceased you. Bob Morris was a quiet, shy man. I didn't know Bob very well but I did truly enjoy stories about him and his sermons that he asked Rev. Eileen to share with us at SCC. He will continue to be an inspiration to a lot of people for many different reasons. This shy quiet man really spoke volumes to my heart and for that I say thank you for sharing him with us at SCC.
