At 96 years young, Esther Van Pelt, wife to Dan Van Pelt (deceased 2009), passed away at home on February 25, 2021. Born and raised in San Jose, Esther married Dan in 1944 on her 19th birthday. In 1953 following Dan's graduation from UC Davis Veterinary school, they moved to Fort Bragg and opened the first veterinary practice on the Mendocino coast. The building where they set up their veterinary practice at 435 ½ Main St. still stands today. Over several decades, Esther took charge of the practice's bookkeeping/finances, assisted in animal examinations/surgeries and managed the family home including keeping up with three young and active sons. Esther and Dan enjoyed playing golf and traveling the world when time from their busy business allowed. Regardless of where they ventured, returning home to Fort Bragg, "the most beautiful spot on the planet" according to Esther, was always a highlight of their travels. Always kindhearted and soft spoken, Esther made lasting and loving friendships throughout her lifetime. Esther is survived by her three sons Cliff, Tom and Bill, five grandchildren Chelsi, Tyler, Bryan, Madison and Michael and three great grandchildren Aiden, Thomas and James. In lieu of a memorial service a donation to the Fort Bragg Food Bank in 'Memory to Esther' is greatly appreciated.
